Snow--no problem

Six inches of snow posed no problems for Santa.

What Millie lacks in brain power she makes up with her blue eyes.

Cones

November 7 in Sioux Falls and it is sunny and in the 60's. This post is a reminder of the snow we had in October.

Water Falls

Black and White of a color photo posted earlier. Several PS changes were made to enhance the contrast and brighten the water.

As Wild As It Gets

Nature shots are hard to come by in the city. Squirrels are as wild an animal you can find except at the zoo.

Shriver's

A landmark building in Sioux Falls. This was taken from the top level of a nearby parking garage

Last Bloom

A solitary bloom of a bush in front of an oriental lantern depicts the end of summer at the Japanese Gardens.

Winter Color

Leaves should fall off the tree before it snows? Not this year.

Avoiding the Meter

Convenient downtown parking? I liked this shot because of the colors and message.

Quiet Time

Notice the leading lines to the subject. I toned this photo to look like one before color film.

Center Piece

This majestic looking tree is in the center of the Japanese Gardens and is indeed the center piece.

Serenity

First post of October, and a serene Fall day at Covel lake.

Falls - Horizontal

For those of you who are curious about Photoshop techniques, I cloned the sky from another photograph. It's easy to do and I think it adds a lot to the image. When I took this shot the sky was a solid gray.

Creepy Green Thing

I saw this creepy green thing under bushes when I was weeding. I had to photograph it because it was so ugly.

Hanging Butterfly

Patience and a butterfly will land on a red flower.

Berries & Sky

The only way I could combine the afternoon sky with the berries was via a montage.

American Pride

Sometimes an overcast day can be good background material for a symbolic image.

Water Falls

Water Falls at Falls Park. I Used a slow shutter speed to soften the water.

Trees On Covel Lake

September 21st was a rainy and windy day for a field trip to Covel Lake, but I managed to get this photo dispite the wind.

Green&Black

My favorite butterfly shot.

Orange&Black

Another Butterfly.

Pumkin and White

The Sertoma Butterfly House is a great place to take pictures of butterflies.

Black and Green

Another butterfly.

Big Brown Butterfly

I took photos at the local butterfly house the other night, some are worth posting.

Landing

I was shooting for color in the bee landing photo. Not as sharp as I would have liked.

Swan At Zoo

I needed to post something other than flowers, so I decided on this swan photo I took the other day at the zoo.

Attitude

The colors in this photo, taken in the late afternoon light, are highly saturated. This flower has "attitude" and makes me feel optimistic.

A wild sunflower planted itself in the backyard and is now beginning to bloom.

Water Lily

My first post for July. Good lighting on a water lily in a backyard water feature.

A Cat's View

Shooting from different vantage points can give some interesting results. This up-shot of a potted flower with be on my mother's 90th birthday card. WOW, but that means I'm almost 60.

Mao Clinic

My lens wasn't wide enough to capture the entire Mao Clinic and I couldn't walk back any further. So this is the result.

Abstract - Mao Clinic at Night

To create this abstract of the Mao Clinic I zoomed out with at 18-200 mm lens at a slow shutter speed.

Sunflower & Vase

I keep telling myself I need to go out and take some photographs but I keep finding other stuff to do. This is a Wal-Mart sunflower.
Maybe my next posting will be a landscape. I'm interested in HDR (high dynamic range) photography; that might be my next subject on this blog.

Real Tulips

The backyard tulips are in full bloom. Because of circumstances my photography has been ignored the past few weeks. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Are These Real Or Fake?

These are fake. Pretty good fake tulips. My tulips have come up, but haven't flowered yet. Tulips stand for Spring.

First Bloom

Another sign that Spring is near. I noticed this bloom on the day before Easter, picked it, and put it in a small glass vase.

Church Skateboarder

Spring is here when you begin to see skateboarders.

Ice Walking

A not so camera shy Goose shows how to walk on ice.

All Skate

With a little help from photoshop I captured reluctant ice skating geese at Arrowhead park.

Goose Skating

The geese on the small pond at Arrowhead Park walked very carefully on the ice. This one seemed to almost lose it's balance. It was a cold overcast day which enhanced the colors and resulted in a short camera shoot outing.

UC Stairway

I've been instructing an OLLI workshop on Picasa at the University Center and took this photo of a stairway at the Center for use in class.

The image appeals to me because of the diagonal lines of the stairway in contrast to the rectangular lines of the window.

Brown Pears on Black

Trying to work with negative space. I'm not sure I understand the concept but I know its important and can add balance to a photograph.

Headlights

I took a bunch of photos of a Harley a couple of years ago and I still find images I haven't explored.

One Duck

The weather in February has been fairly mild for SD. Maybe we'll start seeing more ducks. There's more to photography than roses.

Purple Roses

The Valentine Roses are withering but their photos will live on until I get tired of them.

Rose's Are Also Purple

Down looking shot of a rose in a small vase. Nice natural lighting created by window blinds.
